Action Alert: Tell Representative McCoy NO offshore oil drilling.

Issue:  Committees in the South Carolina House of Representatives are holding hearings this week on three resolutions, two opposed, and one in support of, offshore oil drilling.

Action: Please contact Peter McCoy, our House member, today and tell him you oppose seismic surveys and oil drilling off our coast. When the bills come up for a vote, we want him to vote FOR House bills 4892 and 4896.

You can read the two resolutions opposing offshore oil drilling here:

Background:

The Federal government is not likely to announce which areas it will include in the next offshore oil and gas program until at least this fall or possibly early next year. However, Secretary of the Interior Zinke has said the views of coastal state governments and citizens will be a critical consideration in his decision whether to permit seismic surveys and schedule drilling for oil and gas offshore each state.

Governor McMaster and every community along the South Carolina coast, including Seabrook Island, have told Mr. Zinke they do not want oil and gas activities off our coast. If the State House passes these resolutions opposing seismic testing and oil drilling, it will send President Trump and Secretary Zinke a powerful message that South Carolina is solidly against offshore drilling.
