ISSUE: The Voting Rights Committee sees an opportunity to encourage more people to register to vote. Voter registration days are taking place at the Johns Island library this coming Thursday, September 21st, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and Saturday, September 30th, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
ACTION: You can help by raising awareness of the registration events noted above, and reminding unregistered voters that this is an easy way to get a photo ID without leaving Johns Island.
– Organize a group to spread the word about the events prior to Thursday and Saturday. Suggested locations include Johns Island Library, the Bi-Lo Supermarket on the corner of Main Road and Maybank Highway, the Food Lion on Maybank Highway.
– If you have existing contacts at other community groups/locations such as Our Lady of Mercy Outreach, Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic, SIHAF, Unity Church in N. Charleston, and the Mt. Zion, Angel Oak, Frierson and Haut Gap schools’ reading or tutoring programs, please use these contacts to help spread the word as well.
